Shah Rukh Khan plays Harinder "Harry" Singh Nehra, a tourist guide in Amsterdam. He is lonely but friendly and helpful, self-described as a "cheap womaniser," and he frequently flirts with his customers, putting his job at risk.
Subsequent to dropping a family at the airport, Harry runs over Sejal Zaveri (Anushka Sharma), an individual from a similar family who has lost her wedding band and believes him should help her. Despite Harry's reluctance, he reluctantly agrees to assist in order to avoid Sejal's complaint, which could result in his loss of employment. At the appropriate time of time while looking for the ring, they become cordial and he tells her that he had left his town, Nurmahal and came to Canada to turn into a vocalist, which didn't sort out and that is the way he gradually turned into a local escort.
In search of the ring, Harry and Sejal travel to European locations where he first took the family. During this time, Harry falls in love with Sejal, but he keeps it a secret from her because he is aware that she is engaged to Rupen (Kavi Shastri). Soon, they find out that the ring has been stolen by a criminal named Ghyassuddin Mohammed Qureshi "Gas" (Chandan Roy Sanyal). They go to Gas to get the ring, but Gas' men beat Harry up. Later, while searching through her bag for antiseptics for Harry, Sejal discovers the ring and realizes that it had always been there. She does not, however, tell Harry because she is in love with him and wants to spend more time with him.
The following day, Harry and Sejal take a flight to Frankfurt in order to attend the wedding of Harry's friend Mayank (Aru Krishansh Verma) and Irina (Evelyn Sharma). At the wedding, both of them are asked about their relationship because of the obvious chemistry between them. Harry and Sejal get into a fight about it after the wedding. Harry doesn't talk about his feelings because he thinks he doesn't deserve her, so she decides to fly back home.
Sejal shows Harry the ring at the airport and tells him that she found it a few days ago and that it was always in her bag. He thanks her and asks her to take care of him.
She goes back to India, and he goes back to his job. However, he starts to miss her and becomes sad, and he can't focus on his work. On Mayank's demand, Harry flies to Mumbai to go to her wedding in desire to converse with her about his concealed sentiments before she weds. He finds out that Sejal's marriage was annulled when he gets to the venue. When he goes outside, he finds her seated outside. They at last discuss their thoughts for one another, kiss and go to Harry's town, Nurmahal in Punjab, where he reunites with his family and weds Sejal.
