Plot
At a short track in 1989, Jack Toretto competed in a late model race with his sons, Dominic and Jacob, as pit crew members. Kenny Linder, a rival racer, confronts Dom about his unscrupulous tactics. Jack is killed when his car crashes and burns while Linder's car is on the run and clips Jack's bumper. Dom was arrested a week after Linder was beaten to death. He concludes that Jacob killed his father because he remembered working on his car the day he died while serving his sentence. Dom confronts Jacob and challenges him to a race upon his release, forcing him to leave town if he loses.
Dom is now retired, and he and his wife, Letty Ortiz, are raising their son, Brian. Roman Pierce, Tej Parker and Ramsey arrive with the news that Mr. Nobody's plane was attacked by rogue agents shortly after the arrest of cyber terrorist Cipher, who was hijacked and flown to Montequinto, a fictional country in Central America. had crashed. After learning that Jacob is involved, Dom agrees to assist them. They discover a device called Project ARIES, which can hack any computer weapons system, while searching for the aircraft. A private army led by Jacob ambushes the team and steals the device. Dom's sister Mia comes to the aid of Dom's crew as they escape to their safe haven in the Caspian Sea with the help of Michael Stasiak. Letty and Mia travel to Tokyo to investigate when the team learns that Han Liu is linked to Project Mesh.
Jakob meets with his financier and colleague Otto. Jacob is informed by Cipher, who is held at his base, that the other half of Aries is in Edinburgh. Dom learns that Jacob is in London when he meets Buddy, his father's mechanic, who took Jacob in after his banishment. Letty and Mia find Han and his ward Elle alive in Tokyo. Sean Boswell, Twinky and Earl Hu, who are working on a "rocket car", are recruited by Roman and Tez. Dom meets Queenie Shaw in London, and she tells him where Jacob is. At a party held at Otto's mansion, Dom encounters Jacob and Otto; Dom is taken into custody by Otto, but Dom's longtime friend Leysa rescues him. Tej, Roman and Ramsey join Dom in Edinburgh, where Jacob Venture is using an electromagnet to take the second part of the Aries Gadget. Tej and Roman discover a truck with an electromagnet; Ramsey commandeers the truck to follow Otto as they fight off Otto's men. Jacob is stopped by Dom, and the two of them have a fight across town. Ramsey drives off the road in his car and Otto uses an electromagnet to capture Jacob before he can extract him.
Han reveals to the safe house that Mr. Nobody tasked him with protecting Elle and Project Aries because Elle's DNA is the biometric activation key for the project. He used Deckard Shaw to fake Han's death and protect Elle when Jacob went rogue with Otto. When Jakub is released from the safehouse by Otto and his men, he tells Dom that their father instructed Jakub to modify his car so that he could get out of a lot of debt. Elle is kidnapped by Jakob and Otto, who also take the other half of the Project Mesh device. Jakob orders Elle to activate the mesh while Otto launches a satellite into orbit. They begin to transfer Mesh to the satellite via Tbilisi in a protected truck.
