StoryLines
The film is based on the true story of James Brooke, the king of Sarawak, who has been proposed as one of the inspirations for Rudyard Kipling's story The One Who Might Be Top Dog, and for Joseph Conrad's original ruler, Jim. Brooke was a former warrior of the Bengal Armed Forces, who in 1839 had reached Borneo, which was still heavily influenced by the Sultanate of Brunei, where he served as the chief representative (Pengiran Indera Mahkota, the title for chief representative) of the ruler of Brunei in the neighboring country. helped reduce resistance. and took over as the legislative head of what was turned into the raj of Sarawak as his confidential territory.
