Tsunami Studios created the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Free City. Free City players are recognized by the NPCs they wear, fighting each other and causing mayhem. Unaware that the world they live in is a computer game, the NPCs are mostly oblivious to the chaos caused by the players continuing their pre-arranged lives.
Guy is a non-player character (NPC) who works as a bank teller at a bank in Free City with Buddy, his best friend who works as a security guard. Unemployed programming designer Millie Rusk is without playing in the City to verify that Tsunami took the source code from an idea game she created, Life Itself, which included novel man-made logic processes for its NPCs. His partner, Walter "Keys" Mackay, is considerate, though hesitating to help, as he currently works in tsunami special assistance.
When Millie's symbol "Molotovgirl" attracts the attention of the Fellows by singing her theme song "Dream", he begins to stray from his programming, coincidentally with the Met seeing a skull-veiled player ransacking a bank. shot and left with his shades on. Guy's co-workers Keyes and Mouser believe Guy is a hacker in NPC disguise and attempt to break him out of the game without success. To learn the players' perspective on the game, the Fellows visit the new areas and meet Milly at the Reserve House of the Revengemine Buttons, where they attempt to collect evidence indicating her source code. Trusting the person that he is a novice player, she encourages him to move on before trying again.
