Storylines
Pushpa Raj, a laborer, decided in the 1990s to smuggle red sandalwood, a rare and highly sought-after wood that grows only in the Seshachalam hills of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, with his friend Keshav. When DSP Govindappa and his team raid the forest to nab the coolies and grab the stock, Pushpa hides it, is captured and severely thrashed to expose the wooded area. Smuggler Konda Reddy, Pushpa's employer and her brother help her reach the location of the stock. Pushpa eventually rises in the ranks by adopting new methods of smuggling stock. He earns Konda Reddy's trust and becomes his 4% partner, but also earns the hatred of Konda Reddy's youngest brother, Jolly Reddy.
Mangalam Srinu, Konda Reddy's boss and a bigoted criminal known for his brutality and harassment, runs the syndicate and trusts Konda Reddy to keep the police department safe with his 200 tons of illegal cargo. As Carefree Reddy is deemed rude for work, Pushpa is assigned to do the same. Happy Reddy purposely postpones the wooden item, leaving Pushpa confused, as Govindappa is about to attack on the spot. Keshava bribes the chief engineer of a neighboring dam to close its gates to prevent the timber from flowing through, and Govindappa suffers nothing in the second raid. Pushpa threw all the wood in the nearby river. Sreenu has a gathering on this occasion and during the fun, Pushpa overhears the discussion of two persons who are checking Sreenu's tricks and understands that he sells the wood at a much higher price than what they paid . He tells this to Konda Reddy and offers him a handsome amount from Sreenu, but finds it dangerous to contend with the overpowering Sreenu.
