Story Line
The "Suicide Squad" consists of Belle Reve inmates who agree to complete a mission in exchange for shorter sentences. Intelligence Officer Amanda Waller forms two Task Force X teams. The existence of the other team is unknown to either team. Teams are sent to the island nation of Corto in South America after an anti-American government is overthrown. Their mission is to destroy the Nazi-era laboratory Jotunheim, which is home to a secret experiment known as "Project Starfish". When the Corto Maltese military lands, a team is nearly killed, but team leaders Colonel Rick Flag and Harley Quinn survive. The second team is able to enter the country due to the distraction provided by the ambush on the first team. The team also includes Peacemaker, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, and Ratcatcher 2, who was blackmailed by Waller in exchange for dropping his estranged daughter Teyla's court case. Bloodsport leads the team.
Waller instructs the team to locate Flagg, who was captured by rebel soldiers but has escaped from the military. After finding the rebel base and killing the soldiers there, the team learns that Flag was saved by Sol Soria, the rebel leader. Despite the group's actions, Soria agrees to assist them in entering the capital, where they will capture The Thinker, the project's lead scientist. Corto The Maltese government takes Harley to the new dictator, Silvio Luna, who wants to marry her. Harley kills Luna and escapes after learning of her plans to use Project Starfish on political opponents. She joins the others, who use the schooner to break into Jotunheim and begin to fix it with explosives.
Enter the Project Starfish laboratory with Thinker, Flagg and Ratcatcher 2 and discover Starro the Conqueror, a giant alien who resembles a starfish and creates smaller versions of himself to control and kill people. The Thinker explains that the United States government brought Starro to Earth and secretly funded decades of experiments using Corto Maltese citizens as test subjects. Peacemaker, who is under orders from Waller to conceal United States involvement, kills Flagg, who decides to leak the hard drive containing the evidence. A skirmish between the rest of the team and the military results in Polka-Dot Man accidentally setting off the explosives too early. The drive is captured by Ratcatcher 2 as Jotunheim crumbles. Bloodsport kills Peacemaker, who tries to kill him in order to learn the truth about Starro.
