Story Lines
Kaalaiyan is a nearby town president in Soorakkottai, Thanjavur and also the protector of the town who bows down to moral decency. These beliefs lead him into conflict with Nattadurai, a rival town leader who rules individuals by controlling them through intimidation. When Nattadurai tries to grab land from an elderly man, he hires Pattammal, a lawyer, to defend him. Pattammal betrays his own client and withdraws the case after Kaalaiyan reveals the truth. Pattammal and Kaalaiyan have been experiencing passionate feelings for a long time. Kalaiyaan's reality revolves around his sister Thanga Meenatchi, whom he lovingly brings up after the death of their parents.
When Meenachi returns home from school, Kaalaiyan has trouble finding a groom for her as everyone is scared of her. Kailaiyan's irritable cousins, Angayarakanni and Mangaiyakarasi, both suggest that their siblings marry Thanga Meenatchi. They both wanted to marry Kailayan, but he did not agree. Thanga Meenatchi's marriage is fixed with her younger brother without Nattadurai's consent. Meenachi goes missing on the day of the wedding. Meenachi tries to elope with her college boyfriend in a train when Kaalaiyan sends a search party.
