Storylines
In 5000 BC, ten superpowered beings known as Eternals – Ajak, Cersei, Ikaris, Kingo, Sprite, Fastos, Makkari, Druig, Gilgamesh and Thena – are sent to death by the late Arishem on his starship, Domo. sent to earth. Intruder substances known as freaks. Apparently, in 1521, the last gods and goddesses were killed because the group disagreed on whether or not they should continue their relationship with humans. During the next 500 years they mostly live apart, awaiting requests from Arishem.
In the present day, Cersei and Sprite live in London respectively. Cersei is currently in a relationship with a man named Dan Whitman, who works at the Natural History Museum. Cersei's mate Ikaris left her centuries ago. When the three are chased by Freak Crow, Ikaris appears and chases the beast away. The three Eternals travel to South Dakota to be reunited with their chief, Ajak, only to find that she is dead. Ajak chooses Cersei as his successor after her death, giving her the ability to communicate with the Arishaheim.
Cersei learns that the Eternals were sent to Earth to prepare for the emergence. According to Arishem, he is sowing the seeds of celestial planets on planets where the energy of large populations enables new celestial planets to be born over millions of years. To ensure the development of intelligent life on each planet, the Deviants were sent to kill the planet's apex predators. However, the Arishem created the Eternals to prevent the Deviants from developing and hunting down the planets' native populations. With the reversal of the Blip, Earth has come to a population critical to the introduction of the divine Tiamut, who will bring about Earth's destruction.
