21-year-old Kizie Basu is battling a thyroid malignant growth when she meets 23-year-old Emmanuel "Manny" Rajkumar Jr., who has recently experienced osteosarcoma and is in remission. Manny is working on a film with his friend Jagdish "JP" Pandey, who has glaucoma and is blind in one eye. Manny will play the lead role in the film, which is inspired by Rajinikanth. Kizie is invited by Manny to play the female lead. Rajinikanth's films and their love for Hindi music, especially an unfinished song by retired lyricist Abhimanyu Vir, unites the two. While filming scenes for Manny and JP's movie, Kizie and Manny slowly fall in love. They decide to make "Seri", which means "OK" in Tamil, their secret word to remind them that everything in life will be okay and that it is important to remain optimistic. JP becomes blind after the operation as he loses sight in his other eye.
Manny tells Kiji one day that he has been successful in finding and contacting Abhimanyu. Kizie sends Abhimanyu an email, and he replies by saying that if she can come to visit him in Paris, where he lives, he will answer all her questions. Manny and Kizie try to persuade Kizie's parents to let her go on the trip. They are able to persuade them, with the condition that Kizie's mother supports them. As they are getting ready for the trip, Kizie's cancer worsens, and she immediately ends up in the hospital.
She is weakened after her recovery, so she initially distances herself from Manny, but they eventually get back together. They go to Paris to see Abhimanyu, who frustrates Kizie with no definite answer or reason for not completing the song. Shortly thereafter, Manny tells Kizie that his cancer has returned and is now terminal.
