In 1902, English blue-blood Orlando, Duke of Oxford, his wife Emily and their young son Conrad visited a death camp in South Africa while working for the English Red Cross. Emily is mortally wounded during an attack by Boer riflemen on the camp. She makes Orlando promise that she will never let her son see war again before she dies.
Twelve years later, Orlando has established a personal network of domestic servants, including Shola and Polly, who are employed by the world's most influential dignitaries. The primary purpose of the network is to protect the British Empire and the United Kingdom. Orlando dissuades Conrad from joining the British Army and persuades the Secretary of State for War, Lord Kitchener, to stop him from doing so as Conrad is eager to fight.
Conrad and Orlando travel via Sarajevo with Orlando's friends Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg, at Kitchener's request. Conrad saves the Archduke from a bomb thrown by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian terrorist who wants to start a war. Princip later accidentally ran into the Archduke's entourage again, where he shot and killed the Archduke and his wife. Orlando learns that "The Flock" orchestrated the murder: a group planning to oppose the British, German and Russian empires. The herd is led by the enigmatic "Shepherd", whose ultimate goal is Scottish independence, and is headquartered on a remote clifftop. One of his henchmen is Grigory Rasputin, a respected advisor to Tsar Nicholas of Russia.Cast
