Diljit Dosanjh plays Suraj Singh Dhillon, a rich young man who badly wants to get married. He takes care of his father Gurnam's dairy, but his stoic demeanor prevents him from impressing any girl, leading his family to propose an arranged marriage. His film-loving friend Sukhi suggests that he portray himself as a bad boy to woo girls away, as shown in recent films. The two go on a bad boy drive, breaking lots of rules and creating all kinds of awkward situations. All this is secretly recorded by Madhu Mangal Rane (Manoj Bajpayee), a private detective who is known to do background checks on potential grooms.
The family of the next potential bride rejects Suraj's proposal after seeing pictures of his bad-boy drive when he meets Suraj and his family. Manoj Pahwa's Gurnam leaves the house feeling embarrassed. Suraj learns about Mangal's involvement after being approached by Pandit Dubey (Neeraj Sood), who initially proposed the relationship. He decides to follow Mangal to avenge his family's humiliation.
